Updates...

updated website... it still needs work, but it is getting there.

Here are the new tags! I am really happy with them but I need to finalize them and then start making them. The jewelry tags have changed too. I wanted them to match the clothing tags.

When I was at my grandma’s farm in south-western Washington I picked up lots of windows and chose some doors that I hope I can get down here soon. My Grandpa tore down an old barn once a long time ago and he had saved all the windows and doors and they were just in big pile up in his barn. I was so excited!! It is exactly what I needed. I still don’t know how I am going to work with them, but I will incorporate them somehow. I cleaned them in California which was good because it was 70 degrees there and a much nicer climate to be hosing things down outdoors in.

These are some photos I took while in California. My sister-in-law, Keri, has a really nice camera and light studio equipment. We set up a studio in the garage, it was really fun!

My dad also made me some manikin stands out of wood while I was there, which are really pretty, and my aunt brought down some paintings to go in the show as part of the gallery.

Website and Thesis Paper Epiphany

So I have been struggling with the idea of the website. I know I need to sell something online, but I really didn’t know how it would work because all the clothes are one of a kind and couldn’t really be ordered in different sizes. SO I have decided to treat it like Steep and Cheap, where one item is sold at a time until its gone and then another one pops up. The only difference is that it is one item at a time and there are not multiples of it.

I have decided for my thesis paper I am going to turn it into a magazine with “articles” about my project. If it is turned into something graphic I get to design I am way more excited about writing the material. I finally feel like I am excited about my thesis paper! Plus I have wanted to design a magazine of some kind for a long time, so PERFECT!! (Frank: if you are reading this I am going to come in a talk to you on Monday about this idea. I have some sketches to show you.)

And here is a necklace tag design. Not done yet but I think I am sold on the shape.

Photo Shoot 1

All photos by MEGAN COOK
Some have been edited in Photoshop and some have not. These are just preliminary. Oh and we have more photoshoots to go on in a more urban setting.

More Logo Biz....

I really like the use of the textures and I plan on carrying it throughout the identity. These are possible ideas for signage. We went on a photoshoot last weekend and got some awesome pictures, but still need more. I will post some of the best ones. I am still trying to work out how to use each picture and see if there are any others that I need. ALL PHOTOGRAPHY IS BY MEGAN COOK. and she is awesome!

Presentation

It went well, but there are some kinks I need to work out. Here are some of the images from the presentation.

Fairy Subscription Mother

I believe I have a fairy subscription mother(s) out there. I have been getting Transworld for three years now and have not actually subscribed to that magazine since high school. I filled out a subscription card for Health magazine, but I pinned it to the wall because I didn’t have the money to send it in, but somehow I have been getting that one for about a year and a half now. And a Vogue showed up in the mail box today!!! I was so excited! I usually pick the long line at the grocery store so I have enough time to flip through it, but I guess it is a good one to have around the house especially now.

So anyway THANK YOU FAIRY SUBSCRIPTION MOTHER!!!

Ahhhh More Logo Process!

Started here.....
Went to here...
Ended here...
I love it, but i will have to see what my class and my professor says about it. i like it because it has script in it but it is also readable. it is elegant, classy and fun, also i pieced together different typeface which represents what the store is about (altering).

Display Ideas

Tried a new logo today and went back to the antique look. It looks better, but I need to work on the Boutique part. Greg noticed in class the other day that I seem to like to take things apart and piece them back together and I realize it is a common theme in almost all my work. I think I have decided to do a mixed media piece for the boutique sign. I was going to print something out, but for the size I want it would be way too expensive so I think I will just print the letters and put them on a sign. Megan Cook mentioned using a door instead of a canvas to work on and I REALLY like that idea, but I do need a source for architectural salvage (i.e. old doors and windows and such.) so if anyone knows where I could get things like that, let me know.

I went on a photoshoot this last weekend with Megan and Ali (it was really fun!) but after talking to Megan about doing a shoot with my clothes and jewelry I have thought about a cool window display for the boutique. I have some frames and plan on getting some windows and things… oh here let me just show you.

All the frames would be suspended away from the wall with fishing line from the ceiling. The pictures in this example are just from this weekend , but for the show it would be pictures of the clothes and jewelry.

Mannequins and Purple Dresses

I got my mannequins in the mail the other day. I may not eat this month but they help me so much! It is so much easier to visualize things when they are on mannequins. I also got somewhere on another dress. It’s purple with lace. I feel like it matches the other dress really well. The only thing I am worried about is that I will have too many dresses! I was hoping for a variety or types of clothes, but for some reason I have been drawn to dresses lately. Oh well. There's still plenty of time. I have to give a presentation to the faculty in a few weeks. I am going to start summarizing what Studio Two is and try to explain it in a short concise way. Also Megan’s mom came over last night (thanks for coming over chicas!) and we talked projects all night. She has these SWEET petals made form silk that I really want to do something with. Her name is Jayme Crow and her web site is: www.bellanonnaquilt.com

Something New

Greg (my professor) suggested today that I try something completely different. Something that I wouldn’t think went with the theme I have created, just to get the design buzz back (I feel like I am stuck, but I don’t know on what).

So I tried some different variations and a new look.

I also revised the idea board just to see if I liked it. I do. I like the idea of mixing old with new. or the idea of transformation, having the old ragged clothes turned into something modern.
